Department Overview:The Trauma & General Orthopedics team at The University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital, led by Consultant Dr. Liu Zhaohua, has extensive experience in emergency treatment of high-energy multiple traumas, elderly hip fractures, bone tumors, foot deformities, and ankle injuries. The department pursues professional services and has established three specialized groups: Trauma Orthopedics, Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors, and Foot and Ankle Surgery, providing more specialized and precise services for outpatient and inpatient care.

Trauma Orthopedics Clinical Features:

Geriatric Trauma Orthopedics: Since 2013, the department has been performing rapid surgery and rehabilitation for elderly hip fractures, typically operating within 48 hours of injury if the patient's condition permits, achieving satisfactory clinical outcomes. Since 2014, the department has been treating periprosthetic fractures around artificial hip and knee joints.

High-Energy Multiple Trauma Treatment: Through the Trauma Center platform at The University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital, the department collaborates with various disciplines to provide efficient treatment for complex traumas such as traffic accidents and natural disasters. Successful cases include pelvic fractures, femoral and humeral fractures combined with severe traumatic brain injury, and liver rupture combined with spinal and pelvic fractures.

Minimally Invasive Fracture Treatment:The department performs minimally invasive surgeries such as O-arm and navigation-guided sacroiliac screw and LCII channel screw fixation for pelvic fractures, PFNA for intertrochanteric fractures, intramedullary nailing for tibial fractures, and MIPPO plating for limb fractures.

Bone Tumor Group:The group performs various surgeries for bone and soft tissue tumors, including benign soft tissue tumor resection, extensive resection of malignant soft tissue tumors, limb-salvage surgery for malignant bone tumors, bone metastasis surgery, and tumor biopsies. The group works closely with the Oncology Center to provide comprehensive treatment for bone and soft tissue tumor patients.

Foot and Ankle Group:The group performs various foot and ankle surgeries, including minimally invasive treatment of foot deformities (e.g., minimally invasive treatment of hallux valgus, bunion, tailor's bunion, hammer toe, toe deformities, Freiberg's disease), minimally invasive treatment of foot and ankle sports injuries (e.g., minimally invasive repair of peroneal tendon dislocation, arthroscopic debridement of Haglund's deformity and Achilles tendinitis, arthroscopic treatment of osteochondral injuries, ankle ligament repair), and minimally invasive treatment of common foot and ankle fractures (e.g., arthroscopic treatment of intra-articular calcaneal fractures). The group also provides comprehensive treatment for traumatic arthritis, rheumatoid and gouty arthritis, Müller's disease, tarsal coalition, pes cavus, and flatfoot.
