Endoscopy Center

The International Medical Center's new endoscopy services provide safe and patient-conscious sedation and painless gastrointestinal endoscopy examinations and treatments.

The purpose of gastrointestinal endoscopy is to identify and address issues at an early stage, such as ruling out gastritis and gastric ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori. Early detection and removal of colon polyps can significantly reduce the risk of colorectal cancer, or through regular screening, the risk of hereditary gastric and colorectal cancers, which are common digestive tract tumors, can be lowered.

Specialists at the International Medical Center will first review your medical history or related records to develop a targeted examination plan for you, avoiding excessive testing while effectively preventing the risk of pathological changes.

The entire examination and treatment process is conducted at the International Medical Center's day endoscopy center, no need for hospitalization. Clients of the International Medical Center undergo examination and treatment in a dedicated endoscopy room, which offers high privacy and is equipped with internationally advanced electronic gastroscopy and colonoscopy equipment. The procedure duration is approximately 40 minutes to an hour, ensuring safety and adequate time for examination and treatment. If the doctor discovers issues such as colon polyps or other problems, they will generally address them during the same endoscopy procedure if it is safe to do so. For example, if a removable polyp is found, it will be excised immediately, and a biopsy of suspicious lesions can be taken and sent for pathological diagnosis to avoid the discomfort of repeated bowel preparation.

After the gastrointestinal endoscopy is completed, the anesthesia medication is discontinued, and you will wake up in about 5 minutes. You will then be arranged to rest in an independent recovery room for observation for 15-30 minutes. The entire process of examination, treatment, and recovery typically takes about 2 to 3 hours, after which you can leave the hospital to rest at home, unless there are exceptional circumstances where the doctor may recommend hospitalization for observation. Overall, since gastrointestinal endoscopy can effectively reduce the risk of gastrointestinal cancer in specific populations, it is relatively safe with a low incidence of complications.

According to current research data and the consensus of international experts, if there are no symptoms, the general population should consider undergoing gastrointestinal endoscopy screening starting at the age of 45-50 to reduce the risk of digestive tract cancers. It is recommended to consult a doctor for professional advice. However, for those who have a family history of digestive tract tumors, Helicobacter pylori infection, chronic gastritis, gastric ulcers, gastrointestinal polyps, chronic colitis, long-term bloody stools, abdominal pain, or bloating, it is advised to contact a specialist assistant as soon as possible to schedule a consultation and examination with a specialist.
