The Dermatology Division

      The Dermatology Division of the University of Hong Kong Shenzhen Hospital was set up in May 2013. It is led by Professor Liu Xiaoming, a well-known domestic dermatologist, a national second-level professor, and a recipient of the State Council’s special award. After 9 years of development, a mature professional team of more than 30 clinical staff is in place. The clinical skill and level and academic status of the team rank among the top in the region.
  The division is also the first in Shenzhen to possess an inpatient ward. It has treated many difficult and severe patients referred by peers in Shenzhen and surrounding areas, including vesicular disease, severe drug eruption, severe psoriasis, immune inflammatory diseases, tumors, etc. The outpatient clinics provide consultations catered for psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, difficult and severe skin diseases, venereal diseases, acne and facial dermatitis and hair disease clinics. There is a full range of advanced diagnostic and treatment services, such as pulsed laser therapy, physical therapy, skin surgery, vitiligo epidermal transplantation, skin pathology and other routine diagnosis and treatment services. The division has participated in a number of international and domestic multi-center drug clinical trials, and has carried out a number of scientific research projects at the hospital, municipal and national levels. A dozen of academic papers in domestic and international journals have been published.
  The division continuously integrates provincial, municipal and national industry resources and strengthens cooperation. In January 2019, it led the establishment of the National Psoriasis Biological Treatment Chronic Disease Management Collaboration Group with Xijing Hospital and Peking Union Medical College Hospital. In August 2020, the Division led  the establishment of a Psoriasis Disease Alliance in the Greater Bay Area. On July 24, 2021, the Division led the establishment of the "Shenzhen Medical Doctor Association Inflammatory and Immune Disease Professional Committee", with Professor Liu Xiaoming as chairman. The dermatology division is widely acknowledged and praised by patients, with a high reputation in the region.


  【Service features and advantages】


  The Dermatology Division has always adhered to the principles of  standardized diagnosis and treatment for specific diseases, and strives to provide the best quality medical services to all patients. It has significant advantages in the following aspects:
  Diagnosis and treatment of difficult and severe skin diseases: Since its establishment 9 years ago, the division has provided treatment to a large number of difficult and severe patients referred from the city and surrounding areas. In April 2022, the Division successfully established the Shenzhen Professional Alliance of Difficult, Severe and Rare Skin Diseases, aiming to better solve the problems of member units of the alliance through inter-hospital consultation and discussion of difficult cases.
  Professor Liu Xiaoming is a renowned expert of the diagnosis and treatment of psoriasis. She has been engaged in clinical and scientific research of psoriasis for more than 30 years, and has accumulated rich clinical experience. She has established a chronic disease management platform for psoriasis, and brought the most advanced management plans to benefit her patients. At present, about 500 psoriasis patients are treated on average each month.
  Standardized diagnosis and treatment of atopic dermatitis: Atopic dermatitis is another major disease attending our hospital. 5 international and domestic multi-center drug clinical trial projects are either completed or ongoing. This has helped its staff to better understand and master the treatment of atopic dermatitis. The atopic dermatitis specialized disease clinic has been opened for more than 3 years. It is opened to the public 3 times a week.  An average of about 400 patients with atopic dermatitis were diagnosed and treated each month. The medical team consists of consultant doctor Hou Suchun, senior doctor Ma Li, senior doctor Shi Jialiang, resident doctor Zeng Lihua, Tan Xixi and Min Xue. Patients are given high-quality education and precision treatment services.

  Pulsed laser therapy equipment: V-beam pulsed dye laser therapy device (PDL); intense pulsed light therapy device (IPL); alexandrite Q755nm (Q-switch); fractional laser, etc.
  Physiotherapy equipment: photochemical therapy (PUVA); narrow-band UVB (NB-UVB); photodynamic; carbon dioxide laser therapy device; high-frequency ion therapy device, etc.


  【Special disease clinic introduction】


  Psoriasis Clinic
  The psoriasis clinic is conducted by specialists with rich experience in diagnosis and treatment of psoriasis. The interventional methods include patient education, topical application, systemic medication, phototherapy, various biological agents and other latest treatment methods. Individualized diagnosis and treatment plans are formulated for the disease, and long-term management of patients is carried out through the psoriasis chronic disease management platform. The aim is to maximize the relief of the patient's condition, reduce complications, relieve pain, and improve quality of life. Clinic opening hours: Monday, Thursday, Friday morning and Wednesday afternoon.


  Difficult skin disease clinic
  In February 2022, a special outpatient clinic for intractable skin diseases was established. Professor Liu Xiaoming is in charge of the clinic. The scope of diagnosis and treatment includes intractable and rare skin diseases with unclear diagnosis and poor treatment response. Through systematic and structured examinations, the aim is to make a definitive diagnosis, relieve pain, improve prognosis, improve quality of life, and to benefit patients through long-term, standardized, and personalized treatment that are in line with international standards. Clinic opening  hours: Every Tuesday morning.


  Atopic dermatitis clinic
  The atopic dermatitis (AD) clinic is conducted by specialists with wide experience in AD diagnosis and treatment. The scope of diagnosis and treatment cover patients with known AD, including those with obvious dry skin and/or allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis and other allergic diseases and those with chronic eczema. Treatments include patient education, topical application and wet packs, traditional systemic medication, new targeted monoclonal antibody and small molecule drug therapy, phototherapy and other means to alleviate the condition through individualized and precise diagnosis and treatment. Some additional therapy include bath and skin care guidance and pain relief. Clinic opening hours: Monday, Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon.


  Acne Facial Dermatitis Clinic
  The clinic integrates the acne and facial dermatitis clinics, and is conducted by experienced dermatologists with expertise in the treatment of facial inflammatory skin, acne and rosacea. The range of skin conditions include all inflammatory skin diseases on the face such as acne, rosacea, facial dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis and various facial allergic diseases.  The diagnosis and treatment are based on international guidelines including the use of drug therapy, red and blue light, photodynamics, fruit acid, laser, photon and other treatment methods to formulate individualized and systematic treatment plans for each patient. Patients will also receive guidance and suggestions for daily living. Consultation Hours: Every Monday and Wednesday afternoon.


  Hair disease clinic
  The hair disease clinic is conducted by specialists with wide experience. The range of conditions being seen include alopecia areata, androgenetic alopecia and other hair and scalp diseases. The diagnosis and treatment are based on international guidelines including the use of hormonal assessment, dermoscopy and other means to formulate individualized and serial treatment plans for each patient. Patients will also receive guidance and suggestions for daily living.


  Sexually transmitted disease clinic
 
 The STD outpatient clinic is conducted by STD specialists with wide clinical experience.  Patient's privacy is protected throughout the consultation process. Diagnosis and treatment scope include  gonorrhea, syphilis, condyloma acuminatum, non-gonococcal urethritis, genital herpes, chancroid, lymphogranuloma venereal disease, scabies, molluscum contagiosum, foreskin balanitis, pubic lice, tinea cruris, etc. It also provides STD counseling, STD prevention and sexual health education, STD screening and various laboratory tests.


  Skin Laser Beauty Clinic
  1. Various pigmented skin diseases, such as: Ota nevus, zygomatic brown-cyan nevus, freckles, café-au-lait spots, age spots (seborrheic keratosis), etc.
  2. Various vascular skin diseases: such as port-wine stains, spider nevus, telangiectasia, various hemangiomas, etc.
