In 2017, HKU-SZH was recognized as one of the national bases for standardized resident training. There are 306 residents undergoing training in the Hospital. In 2019, the Hospital was recognized as the “Guangdong Training Center for General Medicine Teaching” and the “Guangdong Workstation of Prof. Spring Kong on Radiation Oncology”. In 2020, the Department of Family Medicine was awarded the "Key Resident Training Base of Guangdong Province". The Hospital held the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Post-Graduation Medical Education Forum” two years in a row, attracting over 1,060 medical teachers from across China. It ranked first in Guangdong in terms of the pass rate of residents taking part in the National Medical Licensing Examination in 2019. In 2020, the pass rate of residency trainees reached 100% (ranking first in Guangdong in the theoretical examination), and the total score of residents participating in the national annual performance test ranked first in China. In 2021, one staff member was employed as the editorial board member of China Post Graduation medical education magazine, two staff members from the Department of Family Medicine were selected as experts of Guangdong residential training supervision. The project “Exploration and development of the training mode of general practitioners“ was selected into "Typical cases of the reform of incentive mechanism for the training and use of general practitioners" by the National Health Commission.
