The Reproductive Medicine Center at HKU-Shenzhen Hospital is one of the Hospital’s flagship Centers of Excellence. The Reproductive Medicine Center was founded by Professor Pak Chung Ho, Professor William S. B. Yeung, and Professor Ernest H. Y. Ng from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the University of Hong Kong.

The vision of the center is to become a world-class reproductive-medicine hub delivering comprehensive, patient-centred, multidisciplinary, evidence-based clinical services.

We provide diagnosis and treatment for the full spectrum of reproductive disorders: infertility, reproductive endocrinology, recurrent pregnancy loss and repeated implantation failure, female sexual dysfunction, premature ovarian insufficiency, fertility preservation, and male infertility and sexual dysfunction through a dedicated andrology clinic.

The Centre operates a complete subspecialty training programme in reproductive medicine and maintains a robust research platform that rapidly translates scientific discoveries into clinical solutions.
Director Prof. Li Yu has practised reproductive medicine and research for almost three decades. Formerly Deputy Director and Clinical Lead of the Reproductive Centre at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, she joined HKU-Shenzhen Hospital in October 2024. She has led or participated in more than 40 national and provincial research projects, published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and 40 highly-cited clinical SCI papers, and is internationally recognised in reproductive endocrinology and human assisted reproductive technology.

Guided by the evidence-based, pro-natural philosophy of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at The University of Hong Kong, and leveraging years of elective single-embryo-transfer experience and standardised protocols, the Centre achieves high cumulative pregnancy rates while maintaining exceptionally low multiple-pregnancy and ovarian-hyperstimulation rates, serving millions of families across Shenzhen and the surrounding region.

The Reproductive Medicine Center was officially certified for operation of human assisted reproductive technology in October 2016. It has continuously passed the review and validation for ten years, and started providing human assisted reproductive technology and services, including Artificial Insemination of the husband's sperm (AIH), conventional in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF, commonly known as "test tube baby") and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Microinjection (ICSI). The pregnancy rate of patients receiving IVF was on a par with that in the QMH Assisted Reproduction and Embryology Center. This result reflected the significant development of reproductive medicine and the establishment of the discipline in the hospital.

The center has always adhered to the service concept of evidence-based diagnosis and treatment, advocating the natural approach of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University of Hong Kong. It has benefited millions of families in Shenzhen and surrounding areas. While accomplishing the dream of childbirth for infertile patients, it also provides the initial guarantee for the safety of mothers and babies and family happiness.

It has held many international conferences on reproductive medicine for many years, led the establishment of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Ovarian Alliance, and has been selected as the "strongest department of reproductive medicine" in Guangdong Province in 2019 and 2021 for two consecutive four years by the big data platform. The RMC is the only place in this discipline of Shenzhen to be included in the list. In June 2020, the center was rewarded as a key cultivation discipline of reproductive medicine in Shenzhen.
