 Department Overview


     The Dermatology Department of the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital was established in May 2013. Under the guidance of internationally renowned dermatology laser expert, Professor Chan ,Hin Lee Henery, Honorary Professor of the University of Hong Kong, and led by Professor Zhang Zhenying, a well-known domestic skin immunology expert, doctoral supervisor, and recipient of the Guangdong Outstanding Youth Fund, the department has developed over ten years into a high-quality professional team comprising 20 medical staff. The department's clinical diagnosis and treatment level, as well as its academic standing, are leading in the region.

     Our hospital was the first in Shenzhen to open a dermatology ward, accepting referrals from colleagues in Shenzhen and surrounding areas for complex and severe cases such as blistering diseases, severe drug eruptions, cutaneous lymphoma, and inflammatory immune skin diseases. The outpatient clinic provides comprehensive and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services, including photoelectric therapy, injection therapy, surgical procedures, photodynamic therapy, epidermal transplantation for vitiligo, phototherapy and photochemotherapy, as well as skin tissue and immunopathology. The department has participated in dozens of international and domestic multicenter drug clinical trials, undertaken more than ten national natural science funds, provincial and municipal research projects, and IIT clinical research projects, and has published numerous academic papers in domestic and international journals. Specialized clinics are available for psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and urticaria, blistering diseases and vitiligo, laser injections, skin aesthetics and acne, sexually transmitted diseases, hair disorders, and comprehensive scar treatment.

     Our department continuously integrates resources from national, provincial, municipal, and industry sources, strengthening collaborations. We have spearheaded the establishment of the Greater Bay Area Six-Hospital Alliance among Sun Yat-sen University, the University of Hong Kong, and Peking University, and have established research collaborations with Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, the Dermatology Hospital of Southern Medical University, and the Basic Medical College of Shenzhen University. Currently, our dermatology department has gained widespread recognition and praise from patients, enjoying high visibility and influence in the region.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Complex and Severe Skin Diseases

     Over the past ten years, our department has consistently upheld the mission of treating diseases and saving lives with high-quality services. We have treated a large number of patients with complex and severe conditions referred from the city and surrounding areas, including blistering diseases, severe drug eruptions, cutaneous lymphoma, cutaneous vasculitis, pustular psoriasis, and hidradenitis suppurativa. Our department's diagnostic and treatment level, as well as clinical service capabilities, have been widely recognized by peers and patients alike.


Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment of Psoriasis and Atopic Dermatitis:

     Professor Zhang Zhenying, the department head, has over 20 years of clinical and research experience in inflammatory immune diseases such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Leading the team, she has established specialized clinics for psoriasis and atopic dermatitis, developed a chronic disease management platform, and undertaken international and domestic multicenter new drug clinical trials. With the most advanced diagnostic and treatment concepts and methods, the team ensures the health and well-being of patients with psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. On average, the department treats 500 psoriasis patients and 400 atopic dermatitis patients monthly.

Under his guidance, the team adheres to the most advanced diagnostic and treatment concepts, utilizing medications, energy-dependent devices, and injections to provide the most scientifically rigorous medical services for patients with acne, rosacea, sensitive skin, scars, pigmentation disorders, and vascular diseases. The team also offers personalized anti-aging solutions for those seeking aesthetic improvements.


Equipment and Facilities Overview


Pulsed Laser Treatment Equipment: V-beam pulsed dye laser (PDL); intense pulsed light (IPL); alexandrite Q-switched laser; fractional erbium laser, etc.

Physical Therapy Equipment: Photochemotherapy (PUVA); narrowband ultraviolet B (NB-UVB); photodynamic therapy; carbon dioxide laser therapy; high-frequency electro-ion therapy, etc.

Psoriasis Clinic

     Staffed by experienced specialists, this clinic provides comprehensive care for diagnosed psoriasis patients, including patient education, topical treatments, phototherapy, systemic medications, biologics, and small molecule drugs. Personalized treatment plans are developed, and long-term management is facilitated through a psoriasis chronic disease management platform. Clinic hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.


Atopic Dermatitis Clinic

     This clinic offers specialized care for diagnosed atopic dermatitis patients, including patient education, topical treatments, wet wrap therapy, phototherapy, traditional systemic medications, novel targeted monoclonal antibodies, small molecule drugs, and systematic desensitization. Personalized treatment plans are developed, and long-term management is facilitated through an atopic dermatitis chronic disease management platform. Clinic hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.


Facial Dermatitis and Acne Clinic

     This clinic integrates the original acne and facial dermatitis clinics, staffed by experienced aesthetic physicians specializing in inflammatory facial skin diseases and acne. Treatment options include medications, red and blue light therapy, photodynamic therapy, chemical peels, lasers, and intense pulsed light, with personalized and systematic treatment plans provided. Clinic hours: All day Thursday.


Hair Disorders Clinic

     This clinic provides specialized care for hair and scalp conditions such as alopecia areata and androgenetic alopecia. Diagnostic methods include hormone level testing and dermatoscopic examination of hair follicles. Treatment options include red light therapy and microneedling, with personalized treatment plans and lifestyle advice provided. Clinic hours: Tuesday afternoons.


Skin Tumors and Nail Disorders Clinic

     Staffed by experienced dermatologic surgeons, this clinic treats conditions such as pigmented nevi, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, paronychia, ingrown nails, nail matrix tumors, nail matrix nevi, fibrokeratomas, myxoid cysts, and onychomycosis. Clinic hours: Friday mornings.


Laser and Injection Clinic

     This clinic offers treatments for various pigmented and vascular skin diseases, scars, and skin rejuvenation, including laser treatments for conditions such as nevus of Ota, freckles, café-au-lait spots, seborrheic keratosis, and melasma, as well as injection-based aesthetic treatments for wrinkles, facial slimming, and hyperhidrosis. Clinic hours: All day Monday to Friday.


Rare Skin Diseases Clinic

     This clinic focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of rare skin diseases, including those listed in the Chinese Rare Disease Directory. Conditions treated include Behçet's disease, pustular psoriasis, pemphigus, cutaneous lymphoma, and hidradenitis suppurativa. The clinic also provides care for systemic rare diseases with skin manifestations. Clinic hours: Tuesday afternoons.


Urticaria and Allergic Diseases Clinic

     This clinic provides specialized care for urticaria and other allergic diseases, utilizing diagnostic methods such as allergen testing, urticaria induction tests, and autologous serum skin tests. Treatment options include antihistamines, phototherapy, injectable medications, and biologics. Clinic hours: Monday mornings.


Biological Agent Refill Clinic
      This clinic is exclusively for patients who require a continuation of their current biological agent treatment plan without any adjustments.


Vitiligo and Pigmentary Disorders Clinic

     This clinic offers treatments for vitiligo and other pigmentary disorders, including phototherapy, autologous melanocyte transplantation, and targeted small molecule therapies. Clinic hours: Tuesday and Thursday mornings (Professor Zhang Zhenying's team); Monday and Tuesday afternoons (Professor Li Hao's team).
