The University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital (HKU-SZH) is a major comprehensive public hospital built by the Shenzhen municipal government with introduction of modern management model by the University of Hong Kong. At a total capital cost of about 4 billion Yuan, the hospital has a total floor area of 367,000 square meters situated on 192,000 square meters of land. With 2000 beds currently in operation, the Hospital has already commenced its second-phase expansion project to increase the total bed complement to 3000 beds in accordance with government planning.

Since its opening on July 1,2012, HKU-SZH has progressively introduced advanced hospital management experience and medical technology of international standards to deliver high quality healthcare services for the public. Taking the opportunity of Shenzhen and Hong Kong collaboration, the Hospital has leveraged on the University of Hong Kong’s international renowned clinical specialties to establish Centres of Excellence in Cardiovascular Diseases,, Oncology, Orthopedics, Reproductive Medicine and Prenatal Diagnosis. The Hospital has also set up an International Medical Center to provide quality advanced medical services and health assessments of international standards. Huawei Li Zhi Yuan Community Health Center has been established to cater for diverse and personalized healthcare needs of locals, cross-border Hong Kong， Macao citizens and expatriates.

HKU-SZH has attained ACHS accreditation in 2015 and National 3A Hospital Accreditation during the year of 2017 . In June 2018, HKU-SZH was successfully selected as one of the “High Level - Summit Program” hospitals of Guangdong Province. HKU-SZH became a pilot hospital for high-quality development of public hospitals, and for establishing and improving modern hospital management in July and December 2021 respectively. It will continue to explore innovation on reform, leading quality growth of public hospitals.
